Common Causes of Bad Breath
Bad Breath Tip! Practice basic natural oral hygiene. As I indicated in the
core e-book of my site, practitioners of Yoga such as the hard-core ones in India, Africa and even here in the USA know of such
ancient techniques of cleansing the body that-though not as necessary for the beginner-are very, very effective for eliminating
bad breath.
The primary cause of bad breath is the overpopulation of odor-causing bacteria in the mouth. Bacteria present in your mouth
will consume food and produce waste. The waste products that are produced by some oral bacteria are sulfur compounds that are
responsible for the foul odor.
There are many ways the population of odor-causing bacteria might increase in your mouth. Having dry mouth is one common way
this could happen. Bacteria will be able to thrive in a dry mouth since there is a lack of moisture that is normally present to
regularly cleanse the mouth. The moisture in the mouth encourages us to swallow. With every swallow we take away some of the
bacteria, as well as some food particles. They will also dilute and wash away the sulfur compounds these bacteria produce.
How do foods cause bad breath?
We have all experienced it at one time or another ? after eating food with garlic, we end up having offensive breath. How does
this happen? When we eat, our digestive system breaks down these foods. Some foods contain molecules that contain unpleasant
odors. These molecules are then absorbed by our bodies and go into the bloodstream. Once it reaches the lungs, some of these
molecules may be released into them. And when we exhale, our breath will contain these molecules that contain the bad odor.
Smoker's breath
Another contributing factor to bad breath is smoking. This odor is attributed to the tar, nicotine, and other foul smelling
things in the tobacco smoke that accumulate on your teeth and the soft tissue in the mouth. Tobacco can also dry your mouth
allowing bacteria to grow in it. It is also a well-known fact that tobacco can contribute to gum disease, which is also a cause
of bad breath.
Bad Breath Tip! Commiphora molmol, Latin for myrrh, is also used for bad
breath. It can be taken to cure infections in the mouth, teeth, gums and throat.
